“PUT IT IN PARK, NOT PERIL” – A Friendly PSA From Joe Davis Autosport
Hey, friends! Joe Davis Autosport here with a message that's as serious as a check engine light and as important as that one bolt you forgot to torque.
As of June 5th, a Pennsylvania law is hitting the streets faster than a teenager in a Golf GTI. It’s called the Paul Miller Law, and it’s not messing around.
Here’s the deal, straight from AAA and your neighborhood auto repair crew who care about you (and your driving record):
If you’re holding or using an interactive mobile device while your vehicle is in drive – even at a red light, in bumper-to-bumper traffic, or chilling behind a tractor trailer that’s "definitely" going to move in the next 12 seconds – it’s now illegal.
🚨 Yes, even if you're just tapping your screen to read that digital vehicle inspection we just sent you.
🚨 Yes, even if you’re stopped.
🚨 Yes, even if you're only texting back “K.”
The penalty?
A $50 fine plus court costs, fees, and the eternal shame of knowing your dog was better behaved in the car than you were.
Why Is It Called The Paul Miller Law?
This law honors Paul Miller, a Pennsylvanian who tragically lost his life on July 5, 2010, because a distracted tractor-trailer driver couldn’t wait to look at his phone. The goal of the law is to stop this kind of senseless tragedy from ever happening again.
So What Does This Have To Do With Your BMW XDrive or Audi Q5 Getting Serviced At Joe Davis Autosport?
Look, we get it. When your car’s in our shop, we know you’re eager for updates. Whether it’s:
- A fresh DVI full of detailed photos and notes
- A call from Nate or Sean with the game plan
- A quick follow-up about parts on order
We are NOT offended if you don’t get back to us immediately.
In fact, weprefer you don’t respond until your vehicle is safely parked, turned off, and not in “Drive".
The Takeaway?
Be smart. Be safe. Be the driver who waits to text us back. Trust us, your life, your license, and your wallet will thank you.
Plus, you’ll avoid being the person who calls us and says, “Hey, I was just responding to your text when I got pulled over…”
Let’s not make that story one we write next month.
Stay safe, stay legal, and as always—Drive What You’ve Built.
